Farrington Grove Retirement Village is nestled in the leafy suburbs of Brisbane with views to Moreton Bay. This prestige retirement community offers its residents an independent lifestyle through self-contained accommodation.
Robert McCray, Director at Mode Design, designed 12 two-bedroom units in three separate buildings using PGH’s Smoothface Nutmeg from the Modern Living Collection. Built on a concrete slab foundation with timber framing and brick cavity, the units were designed with lightweight cladding applied to the upper floor. Clerestory feature living areas introduced natural daylight and cross ventilation into the units.
To balance contemporary design trends with consistency to existing development, Farrington Grove management requested a monotone brick in a colour similar to the original units which were designed several years ago using PGH’s Rustic Harvest Cream and Rustic Sandstone bricks.
"We selected several final colour choices for the client to view and they were happy with smoothface Nutmeg from the same product group as the existing bricks. To ensure it provided a contemporary feel while remaining sympathetic to the surrounding development, we opted for white grout in the new units," said Mr. McCray.
Six months of construction and 60,000 bricks later, the new units were completed in January 2008.
